Cubs on Monday night. He reached xiaoweiwei 发表于 2013/1/17 19:31:00 |
NEW YORK -- The NFL and its locked-out officials met the last two days,
but a person familiar with the negotiations said Friday the sides remain
far apart and no further talks are scheduled. Elite Matt Ryan Jersey
.
The person said in an email to The Associated Press that there are
"significant and serious economic gaps." The person requested anonymity
in characterizing the negotiations because they are intended to remain
private.
Michael Arnold, counsel and lead negotiator for NFL Referees
Association, acknowledged the discussions, saying his group reached out
to the league last week and the NFL agreed to meet. He said there may be
additional talks, but it is "not appropriate" to comment on specific
issues.
The NFL locked out the regular officials in June and has been using
replacements as the season enters its third full weekend. Many players,
coaches and fans have been upset with what they say is poor officiating.
The NFL has warned teams that it wont tolerate confrontational
behaviour toward the new officials.
The NFL locked out the regular officials after their contract expired.
Negotiations with the NFLRA broke down several times during the summer,
including just before the season. This is the first time the league is
using replacements since 2001.
The collection of small college officials working the games has drawn
tough criticism from those on the field. Monday nights game between
Atlanta and Denver underlined the matter, with Broncos coach John Fox
and defensive co-ordinator Jack Del Rio engaging in heated arguments
with officials.
In response, the league, according to NFL.com, said Thursday night that
senior NFL officials called owners, general managers and coaches from
all 32 teams to tell them that respect for the game demands better
conduct.
NFL executive vice-president Ray Anderson noted "unacceptable behaviour"
and added "were not going to tolerate it." He said flags, fines and
suspensions are possible for coaches or players who cross the line.
"Theres no doubt the integrity of the game has been compromised not
having the regular officials out there," Giants linebacker
Mathias Kiwanuka has said. "Weve got to get that taken care of."
What the fans seem most annoyed with is the lack of pace to games,
notably Monday nights win by the Falcons that dragged on past midnight.
The NFL has said that it is trying to upgrade the officiating through
training tapes, conference calls and meetings.
The league and the NFLRA, which covers more than 120 on-field officials,
are at odds over salary, retirement benefits and operational issues.
The NFL has said its offer includes annual pay increases that could earn
an experienced official more than $200,000 annually by 2018. The union
has disputed the value of the proposal, insisting it would ultimately
reduce their compensation.
"We just all hope, and Im speaking on behalf of all 31 other head
coaches, we hope they get something done," Rams coach Jeff Fisher has
said. "Were trusting that they will."

Joensuu opened the scoring at 13:27 in the second period, before Anaheim Ducks forward Kyle Palmieri scored 20 seconds later.
Bobby Ryan added a goal for the Americans early in the third period. William Moore Womens Jersey
. All of a sudden Barbosas entire 2011-12 salary ($7.6-million) was
eradicated from the teams ledger, affording them just a hair under
$12-million in immediate cap space.
Now, obviously the Raptors cannot use any cap space on an upcoming free
agent until July, but as Colangelo has repeated again and again since
Barbosa was shipped off, the space can be used in a lopsided trade
anytime between now and July 1st so long as the team the Raptors are
dealing with is no longer playing in the NBA Playoffs. http://www.theatlantafalconsgear.com/william-moore-jerseys .
Even the offence has been perking up. After so many rough seasons, August has been a pleasant month for these Mariners. Brett Favre Falcons Jersey

After surviving three tough innings, Richard not only settled down on
the mound but drove in three runs to help the San Diego Padres rally for
a 9-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. Authentic Tony Gonzalez Jersey

"I felt the time was right to make this decision," said Jeffries.
"Laurier has been my home, my work and my family for over 40 years but
the time has come to pass the torch.
ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves boosted their rotation and added a
right-handed bat to their bench Monday night by acquiring lefty
Paul Maholm and outfielder Reed Johnson from the Chicago Cubs.
Braves general manager Frank Wren confirmed the team traded right-handed
pitchers Arodys Vizcaino, a top prospect who had season-ending Tommy
John surgery in April, and Jaye Chapman to the Cubs. The Braves also got
cash in the deal.
With the trade deadline looming Tuesday afternoon, the Cubs figured to
keep busy.
Chicago catcher Geovany Soto was pulled from Monday nights 14-4 win over
Pittsburgh, as was Johnson, and they both hugged teammates in the
dugout. The Cubs were expected to send Soto to Texas.
"He came out of the game and said goodbye," Cubs backup catcher
Steve Clevenger said. "Everybody said he was traded and we went on from
there."
Cubs ace Ryan Dempster has attracted interest from several clubs.
Recently, a deal to send Dempster to Atlanta through.
Instead, with the Braves having won six straight and only 3 1-2 games
behind Washington in the NL East and in the thick of the wild-card
chase, they plucked another Cubs pitcher.
"It was one of those situations obviously where Atlanta was in the
market for a starting pitcher," Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said with
a chuckle. "It made the conversation a little bit easier."
"Theres certainly no hard feeling from the front office on what
happened" with the potential Dempster deal, Hoyer said.
"As the deadline gets closer, peoples positions become more clear. I
think it will be busy tonight and I think it will be busy in the
morning," Hoyer said.
"There will be a lot of calls. Whether were going to make other deals,
well see. But I know there will be a lot of phone calls," he said. "I
dont think tonight is going to be one with a lot of sleep."
Wren said the team views Vizcaino as a rising power reliever, but he
said Maholm and Johnson are players who can make a difference for the
Braves playoff hopes.
"We want to put ourselves in a good position to win the division, not
just make the playoffs," Wren said.
"We were looking for a starter, a quality starter that could give us the
kind of production we needed up and down the rotation."
Hoyer said trading Maholm, who has an option year for 2013, and Johnson,
who will be a free agent, is "the kind of chance we need to take right
now."
"Weve been really clear all along that were not contending right now
and we need to take assets that are shorter term and turn them into
longer term assets," Hoyer said. Pink Julio Jones Jersey.
"In the case of Vizcaino we had a chance to get a 21-year-old who, while
injured right now, has a really bright future. Guy that has a great
arm. Kind of power arm were looking at in the system. Chapman has had
good success in Triple-A as a reliever. Another guy were excited about."
The Braves recently removed Jair Jurrjens from the rotation.
Kris Medlen, who has been a key reliever, will make his first start of
the season on Tuesday night against Miami.
Wren called the deal "a perfect fit" for the Braves needs.
"We got two real key fits for us," Wren said.
"If we are done, if nothing else transpires tomorrow, we will be real
happy with where we are."
Maholm, 29, is 9-6 with a 3.74 ERA, including a 4-0 record and 1.23 ERA
in July. He is 62-79 in eight seasons, including seven with Pittsburgh.
"The thing that keeps coming back from our scouts is he doesnt give in,"
Wren said.
"To have the opportunity to get a quality left-handed pitcher at any
time, were excited about that."
The Braves will have a $6.5 million option to retain Maholm in 2013.
Johnson is hitting .333 against left-handers this season. He is 13 for
29 (.448) as a pinch hitter.
"We need another right-handed hitter," Wren said, adding the team also
had interest in Johnson last year.
Chapman is 3-6 with a 3.52 ERA at Triple-A Gwinnett. Vizcaino was 1-1
with a 4.67 ERA in 17 games with Atlanta in 2011.
The 35-year-old Johnson is hitting .307 with three homers and 16 RBIs.
He has played all three outfield positions and is a career .284 hitter.
Johnson started in centre field and led off for the Cubs on Monday
night. He reached on an error to start Chicagos nine-run fifth inning.
After the Cubs batted around, he was due to bat again in the inning but
did not come out onto the on-deck circle.
After a brief delay, David DeJesus was sent out to pinch-hit. TV showed
Johnson exchanging hugs with teammates.
"It is strange telling two players in the middle of a game," Hoyer said.
"It started to leak out about Paul and I wanted to make sure he heard
from us first.
"Both guys took it great. They both enjoyed being Cubs."
Added Hoyer: "Its always fun to trade guys to a contender."
Wren said Maholm may join the team in Atlanta on Wednesday. Johnson is
expected to join the team on Tuesday.
