son, thats an expensive backup. Winter
xiaoweiwei 发表于 2013/1/17 19:31:00
ST. Ravens Haloti Ngata Jersey . PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Matt Moore pitched up to the lofty recent standards set by the Tampa Bay pitching staff. And when the Rays added some hits and runs, that made things look easy. Moore threw six sharp innings, Jose Lobaton drove in three runs and the Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-1 Thursday for a three-game sweep. "Our staff and our entire lineup right now, were playing well," Moore said after winning in the finale of a six-game homestand. "Its a very good time for us in this clubhouse, and theres a lot of looking forward to going on the road right now." Moore (9-7) gave up one run and two hits, retiring 14 straight batters during one stretch. He won his third straight start, striking out six and walking two. That kind of pitching has become routine for the Rays, who have allowed more than one run in only six of their last 19 games. Hitting has been another matter. The Rays took the ALs worst batting average (.230) and lowest scoring output (441 runs) into the game, but Evan Longoria drove in two runs and had three hits. Jeff Keppinger also had three of Tampa Bays 13 hits. The Rays got seven runs after scoring only nine in he first five games of the homestand. Longoria, who missed 85 games with a partially turn hamstring, came inches short of his first home run since April. His RBI double in the eighth inning was close enough for the umpire crew to review before determining it had bounced off a rail and back into play. It would have been the Rays first home run in five games. "With the addition of guys like Longo, I think everybody else is able to relax a bit and gain some confidence, and once youre able to do that, things start rolling," outfielder Matt Joyce said. Tampa Bay has won 16 straight series against Toronto at Tropicana Field. The Rays have won six of eight games overall while the Blue Jays have lost 15 of their last 19. "I truly believe it can become contagious, offensively speaking," manager Joe Maddon said. "Its all based on confidence." The confidence of the Rays pitching staff has never been higher. It has reached the point where Moores first two innings on Thursday were considered something of a struggle. "The start of the game wasnt the way I wanted to start -- 27 pitches in the top half," he said. "I just didnt quite have the feel for things there in the first inning." Rajai Davis led off the game with a double and scored the Blue Jays run on Moores balk. It was the only run given up by Moore in his last three starts. The rookie left-hander is 8-2 with a 2.92 ERA since the end of May. "Obviously Im extremely pleased with where Ive come from the beginning of the season," he said. "After not putting together too many quality starts, now Im getting a little more hungry for the eighth or ninth inning, just to see what those are like." An error on first baseman Edwin Encarnacion opened the way for the Rays three-run second inning off Henderson Alvarez (7-9). Alvarez gave up 11 hits in 4 2-3 innings. NOTES: The Blue Jays placed 3B Brett Lawrie on the disabled list in order to give him eight more days to recover from an injury in his rib/oblique area. Toronto will fill Lawries roster spot before Friday nights game ... Rays pitcher Jeff Niemann, on the disabled list since May 15 with a fractured right fibula, will make a second rehabilitation start Monday or Tuesday and hopes to return by the end of August. ... Rays DH Luke Scott (strained right oblique) will begin a rehab assignment Friday. ... Ben Zobrist played shortstop for the Rays for the first time since 2009 . . . INF Brooks Conrad has accepted his re-assignment, and the Rays released Matt Mangini to make room for Conrad on the Durham roster. Michael Oher Jersey . The Saints Thursday named Paytons trusted second-in-command their interim coach, despite the fact that Vitt will miss a third of the season for his role in New Orleans bounty system. Womens Ray Lewis Jersey . The ace left-hander was set to come off the disabled list Tuesday night to pitch against Toronto, his first start since June 24. http://www.nflravensgearshop.com/dennis-pitta-jersey/ . Zinicola was penalized Thursday after a second violation for a drug of abuse. The 26-year-old, who attended Arizona State, was 1-0 with a 1.98 ERA in 21 relief appearances for triple-A Syracuse last season and 2-0 with a 2. Ray Lewis Vapor Jersey . Reilly passed for two touchdowns and Paul McCallum booted six field goals as the B.C. Lions clinched first place in the CFLs West Division with a 39-19 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos. Purple Torrey Smith Jersey . The 38-year-old who spent the last four years with the Alouettes as offensive co-ordinator and assistant head coach under Marc Trestman has a game to play against his former team when Toronto faces Montreal in a CFL East Division battle tonight.TORONTO -- A cup triumph in the books, its back to reality for Toronto FC. Nine games, no points in MLS play. And the prospect of plenty of time to think about that wretched record if it continues Saturday against the visiting Philadelphia Union (2-6-2). Thanks to the next round of World Cup qualifiers, Toronto (0-9-0) has a three-week break before it resumes play in Kansas City on June 16. Toronto outplayed an underperforming Vancouver 1-0 midweek to win 2-1 on aggregate and lift the Voyageurs Cup for the fourth straight year. Another win going into the league hiatus would be welcome. "We could sign off on a great note," midfielder Terry Dunfield said Friday. "I dont think were a million miles off. I think weve been close in the league several times," he added. "We just need to get that monkey of our back and get those three points. And then I think the points will come. "But every Wednesday night game under the lights in a cup, weve been a different class this season. So for sure if we can carry that mentality into the league, that can only help." Philadelphia, at least from the standings, represents Torontos best chance to pick up some points. The Union stand 18th in the league, with an eight-point bulge over MLS doormat Toronto. "Theyre kind of similar to us," said Toronto defender Jeremy Hall. "They play well, they miss a few chances and they give up a bunch of silly goals. "I know a lot of the guys on the team just from playing with them through college, youth national teams. A young team, hard-working team and Peter Nowak is a coach who demands a lot of his players. Its going to be a dogfight." Said Dunfield: "Theyre a strong physical side, and theyve been a little bit unlucky as well." Midfielder Julian De Guzman called the Union a physical team that likes to go forward. "But we know that theyre breakable. They dont do so well on the road," added de Guzman. It may be a low-scoring affair. The two have combined for 15 goals in 19 games. Seven other teams have matched or exceeded that total individually. Toronto has been blanked in four of its five home league games this season, scoring twice in the other match. The Union have been shut out in two of their five road outings with just three away goals to their credit. One of those goals came last Saturday when Philadelphia rallied for a 1-1 tie in Dallas, ending a three-game losing streak. Still, Philadelphia has good memories of Toronto last season. The Union humiliated TFC 6-2 at BMO Field and then tied Toronto 1-1 in PPL Park in October in a result that clinched Philadelphias first ever playoff spot. Toronto coaches and players have been scratching their head as to why the team has excelled in cup competition (3-1-4 this season) but tanked in the league. Forward Reggie Lambe offered a simple suggestion for spreading the wealth. "I think in our mind we should just take the league as a cup match. If we do that, then maybe well get wins," said the 21-year-old Bermudian. Its been eight months and 23 games since Toronto has recorded back-to-back wins. Manager Aron Winters team beat Colorado 2-1 in league play and FC Tauro 1-0 in the CONCACAF Champions League last September. Toronto is also looking to avoid setting any further records for futility. Ed Reed Jersey. Already in the record book for longest losing streak to start the season, Toronto wants no part of the league record for consecutive losses (12, set by the 1999 MetroStars). And Toronto faces a tough schedule after the break with away games in Kansas City and Houston. Wednesdays win did lift the spirits of the players, who trained at BMO Field on Friday in torrid 29-degree heat. "You could feel it in the practice, in the atmosphere in the changing room," said de Guzman. "You can tell in the changing room, everyones buzzing," added defender Richard Eckersley. "Training was lively. "We want to make it (winning) more consistent now. Not every month or so." De Guzman was sent off against Vancouver during a scuffle which started when Whitecaps forward Sebastien Le Toux shoved Ryan Johnson. Players started congregating and de Guzman made contact with Jun Marquez Davidsons face in what was closer to a caress than a punch. "I just gave him a little tap. He kind of overreacted, if you saw. It almost looked like he had CPR going on there," de Guzman said of the medical treatment that followed. While de Guzman admitted his emotions got the best of him, Hall appreciated his midfielder sticking up for the team. "We fought, we covered for each other," he said. "We were slide-tackling. There were little scuffles and we just had each others back for 90 minutes and I that was the reason why we won." Winter echoed the sentiment. "We fought and battled for it. We played well." Le Toux was also ejected after receiving a second yellow in the melee. Toronto could probably use the break in the schedule. Thanks to the CONCACAF Champions League and Amway Canadian Championship play, Toronto has already played 17 games this season. Teams like Philadelphia, the Chicago Fire and Sporting Kansas City have just played 11 games. "Its going to be tough on Saturday," Hall said. "Legs are heavy. We put a lot out there Wednesday night. ... Well just have to push ourselves on the weekend." Philadelphia goalkeeper Zac MacMath has been sidelined with concussion symptoms but could be pressed back in action after backup Chase Harrison rolled his ankle last weekend. Toronto will be without forward Eric Avila (ankle contusion), which may open the door for Danny Koevermans to return to the starting 11. Since returning from a groin injury, the big Dutchman -- one of Torontos three designated players -- has only seen action from the bench. With a contract worth US$1.563 million this season, thats an expensive backup. Winter has said that his preference is to play both Koevermans and Johnson, pointing to Koevermans post-injury fitness as the reason he has been relegated to the bench. "I was fit Wednesday also. Last week also," Koevermans said pointedly. Winter suggested Koevermans day may be coming. "To play in this league you have to be 100 per cent fit ... And of course when Dannys fit, hes going to play." Notes -- Luis Boa Morte remains on trial with Toronto. Winter said a decision on whether to sign the 34-year-old former Portuguese international will be helped by seeing him play in a reserve match Saturday. ' ' '
