rk a turnaround for all of Torontos teams. Base

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Super Bowl Jerseys 2013 . -- Tim Tebow wont be playing for his hometown team. The Jacksonville Jaguars made it clear Thursday that they have no plans to pursue the popular and polarizing New York Jets backup quarterback. The Jets are likely to release the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner and Jacksonville native during the off-season, and many believed Tebow would land with the Jaguars. But new general manager David Caldwell nixed that idea at his introductory news conference. "I cant imagine a scenario in which hell be a Jacksonville Jaguar -- even if hes released," Caldwell said. And Caldwell wont get any pushback from his new owner. Shad Khan, who made a run at Tebow last year, said it was Caldwells call. "Its not my decision," Khan said. "I want to do whatever to help this team win. Who the players are is really the general managers and coaches -- its a football-side operation decision. Its really not my decision." What has changed for Khan in the 10 months since he wanted Tebow? "Im telling them to take a look at Tebow and theyre saying, Were going to go in a different direction," Khan said. "Thats the difference." Tebow starred at nearby Florida, helping the team win two national championship, and created buzz that he would be a huge hit with the Jaguars. He would sell tickets and merchandise, many said, and bring the small-market franchise national recognition and Super Bowl rings. Despite all the hype, the Jaguars passed on drafting Tebow in 2010 because former general manager Gene Smith didnt view him as a franchise quarterback. But after Khan took over last year and the Denver Broncos started quietly shopping Tebow, Khan told Smith to look into acquiring the left-hander. The Jaguars increased their offer several times. By the end of negotiations, Jacksonville had offered a fourth-round pick and agreed to pay $3 million of the $5 million in advance salary the Broncos had already paid Tebow. The money the Jaguars offered was better than the little more than $2.5 million the Jets agreed to pay, and the draft pick was nine spots higher than New Yorks fourth-round selection. But it never really got down to the details. The Broncos told the Jaguars they were allowing Tebow to choose between the teams, and the Jaguars believe Tebow picked the Jets because he felt he would have a better chance to compete for the quarterback job with Mark Sanchez than Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne. Still, the Jets failed to find a way to effectively use Tebow this season. Apparently, the Jaguars dont want to try now, either. "We plan to address the quarterback situation, obviously," Caldwell said. "Blaine is the second-youngest quarterback in the NFL, but were going to have open competition. Whether its through draft or through free agency, well bring in some more people to compete at the quarterback position. Were going to let the best player win that position." The San Antonio Spurs announced Wednesday that they had re-signed Duncan, bringing back the 36-year-old forward for at least a 16th season. 49ers Super Bowl Jerseys Cheap . Tetsuya Saito scored in the first period and Takuro Yamashita in the third for host Japan, which is seeking its first Olympic berth since automatically qualifying as host of the 1998 Nagano Olympics. Super Bowl Jerseys Sale . Jaime Romero volleyed home Granadas second-minute opener before being red carded for a challenge on Andoni Iraiola in the 38th, but Fernando Llorente missed the ensuing penalty. Cheap NFL Jerseys .   In Game 2 of their Western Conference Quarterfinal series at the United Center, the Preds aimed to be more physical than they were for most of Game 1, won by Nashville, 4-1. Instead, the Blackhawks did most of the hitting Sunday night in a 2-0 win that evened the series. TORONTO -- As the Calgary Stampeders slogged through traffic to their hotel from Pearson Airport to begin the hectic business of Grey Cup week, the Toronto Argonauts were having a love-in with their fans at a downtown rally. About 2,000, many wearing the Argonauts Double Blue jersey, cheered and shouted "Ricky, Ricky" for star quarterback Ricky Ray at Yonge-Dundas Square on Tuesday evening in support of a team that earned the rare chance to play a Grey Cup game at home. The Argonauts will face the Stampeders in the CFL championship game Sunday at Rogers Centre. "Youre always trying to make them proud," said Ray, the veteran who was acquired from Edmonton last winter in a bid to get the Argonauts into the 100th Grey Cup on home turf. "True fans have stuck with us all year long and were getting some new fans too who are really catching onto the excitement weve been able to capture late in the season. "This is what we play for -- these people and this city -- and were just looking forward to playing for the championship." The teams get down to business Wednesday with practices at the domed stadium. It is the first time since 2007 that the two away teams in the division finals pulled upsets to get to the title game, with Calgary knocking off the Lions in Vancouver and Toronto beating the Alouettes in Montreal on Sunday. But they are the two hottest teams in the CFL, with Toronto on a four-game winning streak including the playoffs and Calgary having won its last five. "Part of that is getting Ricky Ray back," receiver and kick return ace Chad Owens said of his quarterback, whose return from injury with three games left in the regular season lit a fire under the 9-9 Argos. "Hes been playing extremely well. But its going to be a tough game. Its going to be last man standing. Calgary have a great football team." Owens is riding a phenomenal season in which he led the league in receiving yards and set a CFL record for all-purpose years. He looked to the cheering crowd and said, "Its their moment. Theyve been waiting for this. But for us, being here is not enough. I know for (the fans) it wont be either. We want to win and well do everything we can to make sure that happens." Winning over the fans has not been easy in a busy sports city, especially one in which all the sports teams have struggled in recent years. The Argonauts drew only 25,792 spectators to their 42-26 win over Edmonton in the East semifinal two weeks ago. But they went into Olympic Stadium in Montreaal, jammed with 50,112 hostile fans, and pulled out the win. Super Bowl Elite Jerseys. And they will be the home team for the Grey Cup game at a packed 49,539-seat Rogers Centre. "Its going to be awesome just to have that experience and see that," said Owens. "Its going to be the first time in my career. "That being said, we cant let that emotion make you lose focus for one second because Calgarys too good. We have to start fast and execute right away, not wait to be down to say OK, lets start focusing." Stampeders quarterback Kevin Glenn said the team is excited about the opportunity, but doesnt want all the weeks festivities to become a distraction. "This is legendary, for it to be the 100th Grey Cup and to be actually playing in it, so I think everybody is relishing all this excitement," Glenn said. "We want to treat it like a normal week, like during the regular season. We know its not going to be, but thats how we want to treat it. You dont want to add any more pressure to it because theres already enough pressure." Playing the game at home is extra special for defensive end Ricky Foley, a Courtice, Ont., native who attended York University in Toronto. Foley said it was part of his dream when he elected to sign with Toronto in 2010 after attending the Seattle Seahawks camp instead of returning to his first CFL team, the B.C. Lions, with whom he won a Cup in 2006. "When I signed here three years ago, part of the sales job by coach (now general manager) Jim Barker was Weve got the 100th Grey Cup game and youre a home town boy. This is where youre supposed to be. This is your destiny. "There were times I didnt know if we were going to be here. Last year was pretty rough and we had some rough stretches this year. Its incredible to think about. The Toronto Argonauts in the 100th Grey Cup. In Toronto. Its something else." Foley hopes the game will mark a turnaround for all of Torontos teams. Baseballs Blue Jays certainly have the city excited after pulling off a blockbuster deal with the Miami Marlins and signing one of the top hitters in the sport in Melky Cabrera. And with the Toronto Maple Leafs in a lockout, the spotlight will be on the Argos. "Its crazy," Foley said. "This is a bigger crowd than we had for B.C. when we won the cup. "I know its the middle of Toronto, but to have a couple of thousand fans down here supporting the Argos is unbelievable. I think the city just wants a winner. Hopefully its an upturn for sports in Toronto." ' ' '
