There are two types of guitars: acoustic and electric. But how do we know which one is right for us?
Basically, acoustic guitars or classical guitars have nylon strings and a wooden body. Electric guitars on the other hand usually have metal strings and an amplifier in order for the sound to be heard.
Once you know how to play the acoustic guitar, you can play the electric guitar, and vice versa since all the principles, methodology and skills needed to play both instruments are the same. However, probably the most important consideration when deciding which to choose is the type of music you want to play. If you prefer rock songs then you should learn to play an electric guitar, if you prefer strumming along to acoustic songs, then the acoustic guitar course is right for you.
However, there are pro抯 and con抯 when deciding to play either instrument for a basic guitar course. Electric guitars have smaller bodies, lighter strings and smaller necks, generally speaking learning to play the electric guitar would be easier because of its size. And since the strings are lighter, they would be easier to press so sore fingers won抰 be an issue.

Progress can easily be seen when learning on an electric guitar because they are easier to play. However, an electric guitar has knobs and buttons that might confuse or intimidate first time user. Electric guitars are also relatively expensive. Aside from the actual guitar, you need to purchase an amplifier and guitar cables. So if budget is a consideration, then better stick to an basic acoustic guitar course. <

Acoustic guitars also need a slightly higher learning curve than electric ones. This is because the acoustic guitar抯 body is bigger and bulkier. Sore fingers are also a common complaint since strings need firm fingers when pressing. Since acoustic guitars are harder to play, don抰 expect to see improvements immediately.
So there it is. Your choice of basic guitar course should stem from your choice of music. If you like metal or rock and plan to be a rock star, then definitely, the basic electric guitar course is right for you. If you are the mellow kind and like acoustic music and are on a budget, then the acoustic guitar course would be an ideal starter for you. |
