This year Boy Scouts celebrates its 100th
anniversary. Many things don’t make it that far, but Boy Scouts has held strong.
That is surprising in the technology age when youth spend so much time on social
media, watching television and playing video games, and less time outdoors,
fake coach.
Much of the reason
Boy Scouts has continued to be so positive and maintained in this age is the
fundamental principles it stands on. In Boy Scouts, young men learn maturity,
self-preservation, survival skills, and analytical thinking. They are given
responsibility which helps them in other facets of their lives.
One example comes from a recent
novel written by John Pilmer called ‘Green Spin.’ In ‘Green Spin’ a young man is
taken hostage by a crazed gunman, and is able to use the skills he learned in
Boy Scouts to distinguish a dangerous situation that he may not have recognized
without the skill. The young man, Jack, is also able to be responsible and
understanding with his younger brother, who is deaf, because of the experiences
he had in Boy Scouts.
I, myself, have been privileged to use what I have
gained as a Boy Scout every time I have submitted a resume. I have included in
my resume my achievement as an Eagle Scout,

though we live in the technology age, that achievement is still recognized and
respected among those I have interviewed with.
So as we celebrate the
100th anniversary of Boy Scouts this year, let’s remember the great things that
continue to come out of such a wonderful organization. An organization that
continues to help young men prepare themselves for the world,
