36 year-old Ginger McGuire of Ferndale, Michigan is suing for negligence, false imprisonment, and infliction of emotional distress, according to Geoffrey Fieger, her attorney. The suit is for between $25,000 and $75,000 in damages, not including any attorney's fees.

McGuire was trapped in the plane after failing to wake up when her express flight landed from Washington DC. The plane had fifty passengers when it landed at about 12:30 am EST, but neither the crew or the other passengers noticed or bothered to wake her as they disembarked. She was finally awakened by the cleaning crew, but federal officers detained her, according to the Detroit Free Press.

United Airlines subcontractor, Trans States Airlines, is assisting United Airlines in an investigation of the incident. Transportation Security Administration officials apparently detained McGuire out of suspicion that she was a terrorist. Some reports indicate, however, that the time between her waking and officials opening the door for her was approximately 15 minutes. .
